“With other forms of treatment, it’s rare that you walk in with pain and out with none. But that’s what I’ve found happen at Frameworks.”
Twenty years ago, David Watkins was suffering from debilitating migraines and his wife, Dorothy from crippling back pain. It appeared that they had exhausted all their options to find relief when a friend suggested trying Frameworks.
“We had nothing to lose,” says David. “We booked our appointment and virtually crawled in on our hands and knees. In my case, the clinician x-rayed my neck to make sure the migraines could be treated by the Frameworks process, and it was evident that a small adjustment was needed to where my spine met my skull. The problem stemmed from my back but presented itself as migraines.
“We unfortunately didn’t maintain our regular visits and when we found ourselves to need further treatment, we discovered Frameworks had moved to Dorset. We are in Tamworth! There was no-one locally who could do what Frameworks does so we started making regular 340-mile round trips down to Verwood.
“I reaped the benefit of keeping my back maintained when I had to have a hip replacement at the age of 70. Prior to the operation, my clinician at Frameworks gave me a lot of specific exercises to do to strengthen my muscles and I was out of hospital in less than 48 hours, and back walking in 6. The doctors said I was a “star patient!”
“I’ve had a lot of injuries over the years, and while my back is the focus for treatment, the clinician is mindful of any problems I have across my whole body and makes sure the aftercare routine takes them into account. One of the major things I’ve learnt is the importance of posture – whether I’m standing, sitting, walking…….. I’ve learned how easily the spine can become unbalanced if you’re not conscious of these everyday movements.
“More recently, I’ve suffered from incapacitating arthritis which left me hardly able to walk. I went on holiday soon after treatment at Frameworks with my family and managed to climb a steep hill which I’m convinced I wouldn’t have been able to do previously.
“I have such confidence in the treatment I receive: it’s been proven time and time again. It’s a true talent to take basic knowledge of the body’s mechanics, apply medical understanding and technical expertise to pinpoint what’s wrong and fine tune the care that’s delivered. I’m always surprised at how a practice so gentle – not at all aggressive – can achieve so much.
“And just because I’m feeling OK, I still attend my “MOT” or maintenance sessions. That way I can prevent any small imbalance causing problems (and pain) further down the line.
“I’m not saying it’s all one way. You as a patient have to invest time in the post-treatment care – the application of heat or cold as directed, the gentle exercises that you’re given depending on your condition. I take every opportunity to build in these simple exercise into everyday life – even when I’m waiting in a queue! But the main thing is, you start off in a stable position: it’s about maintaining that.
“I’m still very active – I still do a little bit of work and I love my garden. I genuinely doubt I would be able to say that if I hadn’t discovered Frameworks!
